Juan Cristóbal Losada, known professionally as Mr. Sonic, is one of the most influential producers, sound engineers, composers, and performers in Latin music. Born in Venezuela, his musical journey began at the tender age of six when he first picked up the violin. Over time, his passion evolved as he learned to play the cuatro and drums, eventually forming his early band Grillos Mientras Tanto, which made waves on the alternative rock scene in 1990s Caracas. His early experiments recording band rehearsals sparked a deep interest in production a passion that has defined his career ever since.

Graduating as a Sound Engineer in 1997, Mr. Sonic quickly established himself by working with notable groups such as Los Amigos Invisibles and Caramelos de Cianuro. His journey took him to the United States in 2000, where his bilingual skills opened doors to opportunities in Miami. Over the course of 16 years there, he collaborated with music legends including Santana, Ricky Martin, Shakira, and Gilberto Santa Rosa. In 2017, Mr. Sonic relocated to New York, where he now splits his time between his state-of-the-art studio and teaching innovative music production techniques as a Professor at New York University (NYU).

Mr. Sonic’s impressive résumé is highlighted by multiple Grammy® and Latin Grammy® awards, along with nearly a dozen Platinum and Gold RIAA certifications for his work with top artists such as Shakira (notably on “Waka Waka”), Chayanne, and Luis Enrique. Recently, he has also received a Diamond RIAA Certification, further cementing his status as a powerhouse in the music industry. His diverse collaborations span genres from pop and rock to salsa and urban Latin music allowing him to create a unique sonic signature. Known for blending 80’s synths with dancehall, afro beats, and reggaeton, Mr. Sonic’s work has not only redefined Latin pop but also pushed creative boundaries on the global stage.

At the heart of his philosophy is the belief that “mixing cultures generates innovation.” Mr. Sonic sees the role of the producer much like that of a chef: one who combines a rich variety of ingredients, each with its own history and flavor, to create something entirely new. For him, success is twofold it’s about achieving artistic satisfaction by creating music that resonates with the soul, and attaining commercial success through accessible, engaging soundscapes. “For me, it’s essential to understand the artist on a personal level what they’re experiencing and what they want to convey,” he explains. This empathetic approach ensures that the music remains authentic and impactful.

In addition to his studio achievements, Mr. Sonic has recently formalized a global partnership with Rimas Publishing. This alliance not only places him among an elite roster of artists and composers such as Bad Bunny, Chris MJ, Eladio Carrion, and Mora but also positions him as a key creative and executive force within the company. Through this partnership, Mr. Sonic is dedicated to expanding Rimas Publishing’s roster and catalog by nurturing emerging talent in New York City.

Adding to his impressive list of accolades, Mr. Sonic was also named Resident Producer at Amazon Music. This role places him at the forefront of global musical innovation. As part of this collaboration, he has established the “Sonic Room at Amazon Music” in New York a Class-A studio equipped with cutting-edge recording and mixing technology, including a 48 channel Solid State Logic Analog Console and a PMC system for Dolby Atmos. With multiple creative spaces and breathtaking views of New York City, the Sonic Room is poised to be one of the most innovative and modern studios in the city.
